Heat-tolerant strawberries,in your own varieties

The challenge.
Increasing and intensifying heatwaves across the globe threaten both the productivity and quality of crops. Strawberries are among the most exposed to high temperatures disrupting flowering and fruit set, reducing yield, fruit size, and quality. The partnership will tackle this challenge in strawberries as a starting point before applying it in other crops.

Discovery meets execution.

Plantik brings demonstrated expertise in engineering high heat tolerance traits - validated in tomato across multiple genetic backgrounds with field demonstrations currently underway across multiple locations in the US and Europe.

This is combined with Hudson River’s proprietary, transgene-free genome-editing method, already tailored to strawberry and well suited for complex traits such as heat tolerance.
Together, the two companies plan to improve the heat tolerance in strawberries and help breeders protect both productivity and marketable fruit quality given increasingly challenging growing conditions.
The partnership brings together unique technologies developed by each company.

Hudson River’s BioMaas platform enables breeders to access its advanced genome-editing capabilities without having to build the R&D and technology in‑house.
Plantik’s ATLANTIS platform offers proprietary discovery capabilities to identify high-potential targets for engineering complex traits without compromise.
Throughout this collaboration, BioMaas will act as a bridge between trait innovators and breeders – helping trait companies translate their discoveries into crop-specific applications, while giving breeders an accessible route to valuable new traits.
Hudson River Biotechnology is a plant crop genome-editing company helping breeders, trait companies and other plant innovators leverage genome editing to achieve their goals. For over a decade, we have built scientific expertise across crop systems with particular strength in the technically demanding steps required to move from an editing ambition towards a viable commercial programme unlocking new crop value. Today, BioMaas gives customers a flexible route into those capabilities, supported by the transparent, dependable partnership our customers already value.

Plantik is a biotechnology company developing next-generation plant engineering technologies to create climate-resilient crops faster, starting with drastically improved tolerance to heat. Leveraging machine learning and genome editing, Plantik's technology unlocks the "dark genome" to significantly improve complex traits without compromise, solving a major bottleneck in adapting crops to climate change.
